In 1999, Laurent Brett and his friends Philippe & Philippe released a 12" white label house bootleg of the classic Temptations' track "Papa Was A Rolling Stone," which they then distributed for free to local DJs around Paris. Pressed to only 300 copies, Brett mixed the EP's three tracks, produced one, and designed the artwork. Now, 20 years later, Brett has dug back into his archives and uncovered the DATs containing the original Pro Tools session files.
In the first part of this two-part series, Beat Line founder Slipstream takes to the original samples and crafts two modern mixes of Brett's classics with his own old-school flavor.

Shortly after this project was released, Laurent kindly sent me one of his last remaining personal copies of the original PWRS 12" along with the vinyl release of his REDONDANCE project's debut album REFLECTION[S] (if you have it, look for my name in the liner notes!).
Several months later, Laurent messaged me a photo of a tattered sheet of thermal paper he'd found in a box in his basement. It was the original pressing plant receipt for the PWRS 12", dated December 1998, and, to the surprise of both of us, indicated an order of only 100 records to be pressed, only a third of the run he had recalled previously.
